Print a sewing pattern at its intended scale
A4, Letter and copyshop pattern editions can have different page sizes. Choose the designer’s correct edition first. A page that nearly fits is still vulnerable to automatic shrink-to-fit. This tool compares the effective page canvas with the paper and margins you declare; it cannot determine the printer’s hard margins or whether important artwork reaches the edge.
Start with a single calibration page at Actual size / 100%. Measure its labeled square horizontally and vertically. A correction estimate is the test scale multiplied by nominal length divided by measured length. Unequal axes suggest a driver, paper-feed or measurement issue that one uniform percentage cannot reliably fix. Print another test after any change.
Review size layers and shared registration marks
Layered PDFs declare optional-content groups. The default configuration can show a group on screen while its print usage hides it. The inventory preserves group IDs, names, default display/print states and requested checklist states. It does not infer which names are clothing sizes, verify that every cut line is correctly assigned, or remove layers. Use a reader with layer controls and inspect the actual print preview, including labels and assembly marks.
Supported PDF and preflight scope
Bundled PDF.js 5.6.205 reads the page tree, compressed objects and optional-content metadata locally. The workflow reports effective visible page boxes and physical page sizes with page/object provenance. It does not render or rewrite pattern artwork, recognize test squares, tile copyshop pages, inspect fonts or every production box, perform full PDF/X validation, execute PDF scripts or print the pattern. Damaged files may be rejected or interpreted using PDF.js recovery; readable metadata does not certify a file. PDFs requiring a password are refused; unlocked encrypted PDFs may be readable.
For individual MediaBox, CropBox, TrimBox, BleedBox and ArtBox inspection, use the PDF page-box inspector. Always confirm the designer’s instructions and original PDF in the actual reader and printer driver.
Frequently asked questions
Does this upload my sewing pattern?
No. PDF bytes are passed to a bundled local PDF.js worker. No PDF contents are sent to a server, and no remote PDF, font or schema is fetched. Clear removes the file and report from the current tool.
Can I print only one pattern size here?
The layer inventory lists declared optional-content groups and separate screen and print defaults. Check the layers you intend to print to record a checklist. These choices do not alter the PDF. Apply and verify those choices in your PDF reader, keeping registration marks and instructions enabled.
Can the tool find my calibration square automatically?
No. Inspect the original pattern and use the designer’s labeled calibration square. Print its page first and enter the nominal side and measured width and height in millimetres. Confirmation records your physical measurement; it does not verify geometry in the PDF.
Should I use Fit to print a pattern?
Fit can shrink or enlarge the whole page and change every pattern measurement. Begin with Actual size / 100% and measure both axes of the test square. The fit estimate only compares the effective page box with assumed symmetric printer margins and automatic portrait/landscape orientation; it does not know where the artwork lies.
Does the exported report contain a repaired or printable pattern?
No. Exports contain the print-review evidence, layer checklist, supplied calibration measurements and assumptions. Print the original PDF using the designer’s instructions and a suitable reader. The HTML report can be printed or saved to PDF separately.
