Review an actual assembly profile
Measure temperatures at representative locations on the populated assembly, export the logger readings as CSV, then select time and thermocouple columns here. Compare every location with the applicable paste and component requirements. An oven’s programmed setpoints are not the temperatures measured on the board.
AIM’s reflow profile supplements explain ramp-to-spike and ramp-soak-spike starting points and assembly-specific adjustments. The normalized two-sided index follows the interval-centering calculation described in KIC’s user manual, Appendix A; this tool checks its own declared metrics and is independent of KIC hardware and software.
Supported input and calculation boundaries
Read UTF-8 comma, tab, semicolon or pipe tables with an optional header and up to 99 preceding metadata records. Decimal numbers and scientific notation are supported; decimal-comma values require a non-comma delimiter or quoted cells. Time is elapsed numeric seconds/minutes/milliseconds or mm:ss / hh:mm:ss. Absolute dates, midnight rollover, binary logger formats and Excel workbooks are not parsed. Duplicate or decreasing timestamps, ragged data records and invalid numeric readings stop analysis rather than being silently removed.
Temperatures and threshold crossings use piecewise linear interpolation, with no smoothing or sensor compensation. Blank readings and excessive sample gaps split traces. TAL sums all strictly-above-liquidus intervals; soak sums band occupancy before first liquidus entry or the first global peak, excluding cooldown. Rates are adjacent-sample slopes or extrema of exact trailing-window secants across valid runs. ΔT is the largest simultaneous difference at a sampled row, not an interpolated board-wide maximum. All times are relative to the first mapped time record.
A measured upper-limit violation remains visible in an incomplete capture; insufficient observed exposure does not prove a lower-limit violation when missing data could supply it. Limits are inclusive. The result evaluates the selected readings and user limits; it does not certify IPC/JEDEC conformance, component survival, solder-joint quality or an oven recipe, predict process changes, or replace the source logger’s validated profiling methods.
Common questions
Why do my ramp rates differ from the logger software?
Software may use different averaging windows, filters or temperature regions. This tool declares its window explicitly and exports the source-line and time interval of each extreme. Use the method required by your process specification.
Why is the result indeterminate?
Blank readings, excessive gaps, a hot start/end or a rate window longer than the valid trace can hide exposure. The observed values remain available, but missing portions are not assumed to meet the limits.
Does disabling soak support a ramp-to-spike profile?
Yes. Disable the soak-time criterion for an RTS process and enter the applicable peak, liquidus, TAL and rate limits. The disabled soak criterion is excluded from the two-sided index.
